You and I are only a year apart and we grew up in tremulous times! Black Lives Matter, John F Kennedy being shot, woman’s rights, Viet Nam, Woodstock, Nixon, Martin Luther King, Kent State(which was only 6 miles away from me)! In some ways a simpler life, but with the undercurrent of unrest! I don’t think there was a big prolife movement back then as those kinds of things were whispered about more than discussed! When I was a teenager there was a rumor around town that the father of girl we knew was doing backroom abortions! As I said before, by the time I figured out I was pregnant I was about 5 months along! I did go to a doctor, he of course confirmed that I was pregnant,said everything was fine and prescribed pre- natal vitamins. My mother found them in my bathroom drawer, called the doctors office and found out he was a gynecologist! She then called my dad who lived in California, he said I could come out there to have the baby and it would be put up for adoption! I didn’t know that, until one day my boyfriend and I were walking in town and we passed the travel agency! For some odd reason I went in and asked if I had any reservations and she said “yes” to San Francisco where my father lived in just a few days! My boyfriend told his mother, his brother and his wife were visiting Ohio from West Virginia and had just gotten married in North Carolina where you could get a blood test, go to a city office to get a license and then a retired minister would marry you in his office all in one morning, no questions asked! I told my mom my boyfriend’s brother was in town and wanted to take us out for dinner and oddly she let me go! We didn’t go out to dinner, but drove all night to North Carolina! I hurt my mother deeply, but I kept my baby and that’s all the mattered. My two oldest daughters were both married and had children, my son is married and has two daughters, my youngest daughter is still trying to get pregnant! So, I am pro life and feel that there are other options if a women becomes pregnant but can’t keep the baby for whatever reason! I don’t believe in having an obortion as birth control! There are definitely other options there as well! My mother was adopted as her mother couldn’t get pregnant so in that instance adoption is a gift for couples who can’t conceive! I don’t know how your wife could have done that to you as that is something that should be discussed together! Unless like thought it wasn’t yours! Children are expensive, messy, smelly, obstinate, demanding, whiny! But they are a tremendous blessing and bring so much pride and joy to your life as well! I thank God all of mine are healthy, smart, successful, adventurous, happy and well grounded! If this helps great! If there’s something else you want to know please let me know! Your friend always.
